Tribute to Special Care Counsellors: Everyday Superheroes

Happy Quebec Week for Special Care Counsellors (2025)!

This week, at the Jasmin Roy Sophie Desmarais Foundation, we proudly raise our imaginary capes to salute those who perform real-life heroic acts every day: Special Care Counsellors.

In school hallways, youth centers, community spaces, and beyond, Special Care Counsellors hold the emotional distress of young people with quiet strength and unwavering compassion. When a student is unable to manage a crisis, express their emotions, or even simply find their place in a group, it is often these professionals who step in—with tact, patience, and creativity.

What may appear to be just a “quick chat in the hallway” is often the result of a well-thought-out, personalized action plan carried out with great care. Special Care Counsellors don’t just put out emotional fires—they teach young people how to recognize, understand, and regulate their emotions. Thanks to their deep and dedicated work, these youth are gradually able to refocus on their learning, rebuild confidence in their abilities, and grow.

And it’s no coincidence that at the Foundation, it’s often Special Care Counsellors who reach out to us first to bring our awareness workshops to their schools and organizations. Because they understand the importance of cultivating healthy emotional and relational habits from an early age. Because they know that preventing distress also means equipping, listening, and supporting.

So today, during this week dedicated to your vital profession, we want to say THANK YOU. Thank you for believing in every person’s capacity to grow, evolve, and heal. Thank you for working (far too!) often in the shadows, without fanfare, but with enormous heart.

To all Special Care Counsellors, our gratitude is endless. You are indispensable pillars of student and social well-being. And to us, you are—without a doubt—true superheroes.

💙🧡
